I had strawberry At dinner, I got into a heated conversation about Gaza with a woman who remembers the war in 73 And I listened I conceded that the place is run by psychotic, violent fundamentalists --and I understood why someone who remembers war would want to say this one isn't ours I asked her to consider the possibility that a country that: runs an occupation with impunity despite over 100 UN resolutions against it has over 3000 tanks, over 300 F16s, (an estimated 80 nuclear warheads sshhh), a state-of-the-art anti-missile dome that cost American taxpayers 700 million dollars AND YET has a 'self defense' policy of bombing hospitals and killing children on beaches supports an academic who suggested raping Palestinian women as a "deterrent" to suicide bombers (Kedar was just playing devil's advocate so don't get your panties in a bunch) and oh yes, has a politician in office openly calling for GENOCIDE --might such a country just be the perfect breeding ground for psychotic, violent fundamentalists? I showed her a video of a little boy saying when he grows up he wants to kill Arabs in Lebanon-- and when the interviewer told him 'we gave back Lebanon'-- he said God willing by the time I'm old enough to fight we will be there again And I showed her a video of a protest where people screamed "Death to leftists and Arabs" I asked her if she really believed it will never be our fight She said no Then we had ice cream |
