Little Sarah pt 1 Little Sarah has short hair because she wants to look like Maria Von Trapp She likes the idea of women in abayas living together in a big castle and singing every day She didn't run to the hills but she would run to the giant empty lots on the compound with big rocky sand dunes and twirl until she felt dizzy She loved biking down the steep road and down steps She tried to do tricks like letting go of the handlebars and standing on the bike seat Little Sarah had perpetually scraped knees and elbows, nobody questioned the other bruises She was always climbing something she wasnt supposed to climb She liked hanging upside down on the monkey bars Little Sarah could rollerblade five kilometers to the recreation center on the compound She liked how it felt to forget how to think Her favourite shirt was a yellow t-shirt with a chipmunk saying Hey! She always got pecan and praline ice cream for 5 riyal She liked playing pacman at the store until she got shooed away Little Sarah created a Barbie and Teddy saga, exploring the difficulties and social stigma interspecies toy couples suffer in the toy community (Little Sarah was inspired by Captain Kirk whoring around the universe) Little Sarah ordered a book about how to be a detective and another one about how to make friendship bracelets (she tricked her parents into thinking they were academic books but they were FUN muaha) Little Sarah watched old American movies -- MGM studios. She loved Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. She loved Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. She didn't think Humphrey Bogart was very handsome but Ronald Reagan seemed very charming (yeesh little Sarah). Little Sarah loved, loved, loooved Gene Kelly and Judy Garland (and the funny skinny one Frank Sinatra was nice too). Little Sarah read Rebecca by Daphne duMaurier with an electronic dictionary in bed. It was her favourite book. She didn't like the movie, she thought that Hitchcock guy really missed the mark. It wasnt like the book at aaaall (older Sarah really loves the movie). Little Sarah wrote teeny tiny messages on scraps of paper that she'd fold and fold until they could fit in the hub of the wheel of the tea trolley (it had a metal cap she could unscrew). She'd try to forget so she could surprise herself with a kind message. Little Sarah felt safe to cry under the dining table and would hug the legs of the chairs. The dining room was quiet, she liked that. --- I'm trying to remember her |
