Egyptian breakfast In case you were wondering what a full Egyptian breakfast is: --Ful (pronounced fool, sometimes spelled foul which makes me laugh): baked fava beans, healthy people eat it with olive oil, midway people eat it with corn oil, I eat it with butter when available because yum. There are also variations with tahini or tomato but these aren't so common. --Falafel, I think most of the world is familiar with these now. In Cairo we call them ta3meyya. In the fertile crescent (Syria, Lebanon and Palestine) they make them with chickpeas/garbanzo beans. Egyptians wrinkle their noses at this. We make ours from fava beans and they're a beautiful green color inside (and less bitter in my opinion). --Eggs: omelette or sunny side up or scrambled with tomatoes and onions or with pastirma (seasoned, air dried, cured beef). In Egyptian Arabic, sunny side up is 'beid 3oyoon" which means "eye eggs" --Domiaty cheese, which we call white cheese: made from buffalo milk, very salty, we eat it with tomatoes and peppers and olive oil -Salata (three guesses) -Tahini salata which we pronounce tahina, don't know how "a" turned into "ee" abroad -Pita bread -Fries -Juice (orange or lemonade with mint), during meal -Water, during meal -Tea (usually with mint) or Nescafe after meal (Only now realizing I have 3 beverages with every meal and never questioned it) -If sweet things are included then (strawberry, apricot or bitter orange) jam or halawa We were all patting our bellies and yawning I was very happy which made the sudden crying more witchy You know what else makes me happy? I bet Gen Z has a queer muslim witch book club somewhere Tante Rizzo was cute and reminded me of K today She kept saying, "I strongly believe that I'm going to inherit or come into a ton of money" Z, "What are you going to do with it?" Rizzo, "DISAPPEAR" Earlier, I told her about Agatha Christie's mysterious real life disappearance for 11 days and that I believed she planned the whole thing just to get away from everybody Agatha Christie is the one thing my grandpa, my baba and I have in common I love her Hitchcock once said she's the only person who can write plot This was just supposed to be about breakfast I sleep now Hugs |
