Dear "nuanced" view People are passing the following off as an in-depth and moderate stance: Sure Israel commits war crimes but it's understandable because-- 1. Hamas uses human shields Funnily enough, this "moderate" view also happens to encompass every Israeli talking point, and has NO evidence whatsoever supporting it HI people who say that and who think they aren't taking sides -- meet evidence-- and by evidence I mean documentation by Human Rights Watch, the actual words of the Dahiya doctrine, reports from Amnesty International, testimonies from Israeli soldiers (Breakingthesilence.org) and testimonies from Doctors without Borders: http://www.thenation.com/article/180783/five-israeli-talking-points-gaza-debunked# Oh and for the millionth time-- Hamas didn't kidnap those kids. It was a lone cell. Nobody elected that lone cell. This has been documented and I'm not putting up the nymag article again. However, the 15 year old American Palestinian Tariq Khdeir-- the cousin of the boy who was burned alive-- was beat up by Israeli agents. Agents. Not angry citizens. Agents. There's a VIDEO. I'm an Egyptian Arab and I recognize that Israel exists and I don't particularly want to wipe it off the face of the planet. I'm not "by nature" a terrorist. Everyone I know wouldn't murder an Israeli on sight. There are crazy fundamentalist groups in my society-- they murder Arabs and Muslims too. You don't get to assume we're all like that. I think if you characterize an entire people as terrorists and justify the murder of children-- you're risking your soul. And I don't see the nuance in it. (I love you Noura Erakat) |
